The Main Street Vision
The Duncanville Community & Economic Development Corporation (“DCEDC”), a non-profit corporation established in 1995 and charged with the responsibility of promoting economic development through a half-cent sales tax, began discussing the need for redevelopment in 1998. While investigating economic development options available within Duncanville, the need to identify and revitalize strategic areas of the City become obvious. Potential target areas for redevelopment were then evaluated. The Main Street corridor was soon identified as a priority and a key component to creating a sustainable community. Concurrently, the need for a clear plan for redevelopment also became evident.
After much thought and study by city leaders and the DCEDC, the Main Street Vision was unveiled. The Main Street Vision is a formal plan to transform Main Street from a disconnected chain of disparate businesses into a seamless, integrated socio-economic epicenter. It further endeavors to infuse Main Street, the 2.7 mile artery connecting Interstate 20 and Highway 67, with new life, activity and density which is lacking in many first tier suburbs.
